The word Entropion comes from the Greek word ektropion from
ektrepein to turn out ( ex meaning out and trepein to turn).
Entropion is the inversion, or turning inward, of the border of
the eyelid against the eyeball.

Problems - Symptoms of Entropion
Entropion is marked by the eye being partially held shut with
excessive tearing and squinting. The lashes rub against the eye
which often has a red and sore appearance. Your dog may be
sensitive to light and may rub at its eyes. Both eyes are usually
affected simultaneously.

All breeds can be affected but studies have shown that the
following breeds are the most susceptible:

Bulldog
Chow Chow
Mastiff

Entropion is usually due to: an inherited faulty eyelid
conformation that manifests in young adult dogs. Breed related
entropion usually affects dogs under 1 year of age. This
hereditary disorder was due to selective breeding to create
exaggerated facial features with prominent eyes and/or heavy
facial folds.

Information - Treatment of Entropion
The treatment of Entropion is by surgical correction. This surgery
involves removing a small portion of the skin to tighten the
eyelid which is usually undertaken when the dog is an adult since
its facial structures are still growing and changing.
