Origin of the name: The German word Pinscher, also Pinsch, probably derives from the English word 'pinch' in reference to its "clipped" ears.

German Pinscher History and Origin: The country of origin of the German Pinscher breed was in Germany during the 1600's. He was bred as a stable dog and gained the nickname of the "Vermin Hunter" due to his prowess in hunting rats and mice. This tall breed is also known as Standard Pinscher and its size and bark made the German Pinscher a highly protective farm guard dog.
