Schnoodle Characteristics: The Spirited and Lovable Schnoodle is a breed of Medium dog is a Hybrid / Mix crossbreed, bred from a Miniature Schnauzer and Poodle. The Schnoodle, is characterized by its charming, adorable appearance with its affectionate and loving expression. This "designer dog" hybrid breed exhibits the combination of characteristics, and a temperament mix, associated with the Miniature Schnauzer and the Poodle. The goal of crossing the two breeds was to create 'Schnauzerpoo' puppies that incorporated the hardy, agile and robust features and obedience of the Schnauzer with the high intelligence, devotion and non-shedding coat of the Poodle.

The temperament of the Schnoodle can be described as Charming, attentive, alert. The coat type of the Schnoodle is described as varied coat type depending on hereditary traits in assorted colors.  Due to its characteristics and qualities, the Schnoodle demonstrated the desired traits of a Watch dog and Companion and is known by its nick name the "Schnopoo". Schnoodle History and Origin: The country of origin of the Schnoodle breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid Schnoodle is a combination of two dog breeds. The Miniature Schnauzer, the "Little Beard", originated in Germany as a ratter during the 1800's. The Poodle, the "Caniche", began as a water dog, specifically as a duck retriever, in Germany during the 1500's. Dog breeders aimed to combine the high intelligence of the poodle with the hardy, alert and robust attributes of the Miniature Schnauzer. The result was a Schnoodle which has become one of the most successful new 'Designer Dogs' breeds.

Owners loved the affectionate Schnoodle who proved highly adaptable to the different lifestyles of people and was happy in either a rural are or living in an apartment. The sociable Schnoodle was found to be friendly towards all people including considerate younger children but could be somewhat reticent and a little suspicious of strangers. The cross-breed Schnoodle is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).

Schnoodle Height: This breed is classified as a medium sized dog. The height to the shoulder of a male Schnoodle dog is 9.8 - 15 inches (25 - 38 cm). The height to the shoulder of a female dog is slightly less.

Schnoodle Weight: The weight of the male in this medium sized dog is 14 - 24 lbs (5.4 - 11 kg). The weight of the smaller female dog is slightly less than the male.

Schnoodle Coat Type: The coat type is described as varied coat type depending on hereditary traits and the Schnoodle coat can therefore be short or long  soft or silky hair that can be a loose wavy coat, a tighter curly coat or a straight coat.

Schnoodle Coat Colors: The colors of the Schnoodle dog breed consist of assorted colors consisting of black, gray, silver, apricot, brown, white, sable, black & white and black & tan. N.B. Sable is a dark brown color.

Schnoodle Grooming Requirements: The grooming needs of the Schnoodle is dependent on the type of coat it has inherited from its parents, either the Miniature Schnauzer or the Poodle. The Miniature Schnauzer has high grooming requirements as does the Poodle, so this dog can be expected to be high maintenance. The grooming needs and requirements of the Schnoodle should include bathing the dog on a monthly basis and making regular checks of the teeth, nails, eyes and ears.
