Origin of the name: The origin of the name "Havapoo" derives from a combination of the names of the dog's parents.

Havapoo History and Origin: The country of origin of the Havapoo breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid Havapoo is a combination of two dog breeds. The Poodle, the "Caniche", began as a water dog, specifically as a duck retriever, in Germany during the 1500's. The Havanese, the "Dog from Havana", originated in Cuba as a performer and lapdog dating back to time immemorial. In the late 1990's dog breeders began to create the self-styled 'Designer Dogs" and began to develop a new breed based on the combined qualities of the Poodle and the Havanese dog.

The breeding programs resulted in the Havapoo, an adorable dog that exhibited the charm, out going nature and intelligence of the Poodle together with the advantages of its low shedding coat with the easy trainability, gorgeous, soft, silky coat and large appealing eyes of the Havanese. The charming hybrid Havapoo was a success with families and kids over 6 years old. The cross-breed Havapoo is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).

Havapoo Height: This breed is classified as a Small to Medium sized dog. The height to the shoulder of a male dog is 8-15 inches. The height to the shoulder of a female dog is slightly less.
