The goal of crossing the two breeds was to create 'Cockerter' puppies that might incorporate the sweet and stable temperament of the Cocker Spaniel with the beautiful, long, profuse coat and alert nature of the Yorkshire Terrier.

Corky History and Origin: The country of origin of the Corky breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid Corky is a combination of two dog breeds. The American Cocker Spaniel, the "Woodcock pigeon hunter", was developed in the United States as a bird flusher to hunt the timberdoodle during the 1800's. The Yorkshire Terrier, the "Yorkie", began as a hunting dog (a ratter) in England during the 1800's. During the 1990's dog breeders began to create the so-called 'Designer Dogs" and began to develop a new breed based on the combined qualities of the Yorkie and the Cocker.

The breeding programs resulted in the Corky, an adorable dog that exhibited the stable, calm personality traits  of the Cocker Spaniel with the beautiful, long, abundant coat and the alert, cheeky nature of the Yorkshire Terrier. The hybrid Corky was found to be a real live wire. Highly sociable and energetic the Corky was a great success with families and kids over 6 years old. The cross-breed Corky is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC). The Corky is a fairly rare 'Designer Dog' who creates interest from other dog lovers.
