Chug History and Origin: The country of origin of the Chug breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid Chug is a combination of two dog breeds. The Pug, the "Monk's Dog", originated in China as a Companion and Lapdog dating back to time immemorial. The Chihuahua, the "Smallest Dog in the World", originated in Mexico as a Ceremonial dog during the 1500's. During the 1990's dog breeders began to create the so-called 'Designer Dogs" and began to develop a new breed based on the combined qualities of the Chihuahua and the Pug.

The breeding programs resulted in the Chug, an adorable dog that incorporated the beautiful coat colors, independence and alertness of the Pug with the easy trainability and low shedding coat of the clever little Chihuahua.. The hybrid Chug was found to be a treasure as an affectionate, unusual pet. Sociable and alert, the Chug was a great success with families and kids over 6 years old. The cross-breed Chug is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).

Chug Height: The Chug breed is classified as a small sized dog. The height to the shoulder of a male dog is 6 to 12 inches. The height to the shoulder of a female dog is slightly less.
