Alaskan Klee Kai History and Origin: The country of origin of the Alaskan Klee Kai breed was in United States (Alaska) during the 1970's when the Klee Kai breed was developed by Linda Spurlin and her family who lived in Wasilla, Alaska. The Spurlin family mated the spitz type Siberian and Alaskan huskies with the smaller Schipperke and American Eskimo Dog to create a "Mini Husky' and gave their new breed of Spitz type dog the name of 'Klee Kai' meaning "little dog".

The Alaskan Husky, American Eskimo Dog, Schipperke and the Siberian Husky also all Spitz-type dogs so the Alaskan Klee Kai breed was specifically breed to inherit the characteristics  of the Spitz types of dogs. Sharing this loosely common ancestry the Alaskan Klee Kai have retained a wolf-like appearance, pointed muzzle and ears, a thick, dense, double coat  with a high carried tail that curls up and over its back.
